I received two press releases this week that show the financial crisis is still very much in the minds of wine people, despite the great result in the US election.

The first one is a particularly funny take on the financial crisis from new(ish) wine company From Vineyards Direct.

They have put together a Hard Times case because, as they say, we are all looking to buy and drink good wine as cheaply as possible.

The Hard Times Case contains: a wonderful selection of French wines, including two ‘de-frocked’ classics and a beautifully bound Everyman’s edition of Dickens’ 'Hard Times', all for £122.00.

Details here - but hats off to them for making the most of a bad situation! (and the wines are pretty good as well, I noted that Jonathan Maltus of Le Dome is behind their Saint Emilion)

The second press release came from La Conseillante, the iconic Pomerol property, and says:

'In view of the current economic uncertainty, the Family Board of Château La Conseillante has decided to postpone the construction of its new batch-enabled vathouse.

This project, which is the centrepiece of the estate’s development strategy, will be reactivated as soon as market conditions return to better visibility.'
